We make dance accessible to and empower individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
RUD started in 2015 with nothing more than a boombox, a few 8 counts of choreo, an open street corner, and a desire to spark a new passion for dance in the city. Holding weekly street sessions in any open space available, it quickly caught wind and sparked a fire that is still burning today. Currently located at The House. in Carver, right outside of VCU, RUD functions both as a top-notch training facility as well as a ministry with a heavy focus on outreach.
We believe dance should be universally accessible, so we offer financial assistance and taIlored support to individuals facing barriers to dance education and training.
Since 2016, more than 7,000 dancers have trained, performed, and grown with us. Averaging over 778 new dancers each year, building skills, confidence, and community.
From summer camps to workshops, we’ve trained and inspired thousands of dancers throughout the Richmond area. Our performers have also shared movement, culture, and creativity at hundreds of local events—touching tens of thousands of community members along the way.
We’ve given out more than 300 scholarships, helping dancers access training, performances, and opportunities regardless of financial barriers.
The Company is a diverse group of dancers who are dedicated to giving back to the community by performing at local events as well as being dedicated to representing RUD around the city!
